March - The Call of The Brave (brass band)
March – The Call of The Brave was commissioned by conductor Henrik Juul-Pedersen and Frederikshavn FDF Brass Band in 2007 as the first piece based on hymns and songs from the Danish FDF scout movement.
The march is inspired by a poem by Rudolf Bruhn (1889-1918). The poem was written in 1916 during the “Battle of Jutland” where the Royal Navy and The German Kriegsmarine collided near the coast of Jutland (31st May – 1st June 1916). More than 10.000 brave seamen lost their lives in the battle.
In 1917 the FDF scout movement could celebrate the 15th anniversary and Holger Th. Rützebeck (1867-1937) composed a hymn based on the poem (the hymn is used in the trio).
The hymn became very popular and is still used. The march honors both the brave seamen and the early pioneers in the FDF scout movement.
