Colourama Suite COMPLETE (brass band)

DKK 1,250.00

"This journey in colours & musical contrasts is meant to take the listener on a voyage through the differences between time periods, differences in culture and musical styles and various states of mind. The use of the word colour(rama) is meant in a contrasting sense and specific colours are attached to each movement to underline the hour of the day - starting with the red sundown. Through the program the colours get increasingly elusive and the composer urges the listener to imagine a sub story on their own."

- PROLOGUE -
1. TANGO APASIONADO (RED)
2. THE IMPALA BLUE ́59 (BLUE)
3. A TIME FOR US (QUINTET FEATURE) (NIGHT PURPLE)
4. SUNRISE & AFRICAN JIG (EUPHONIUM SOLO) (ORANGE & GREEN)
- EPILOGUE -
5. BACK IN THE GROOVE (PINK)

PERFORMING NOTES:
"Colourama" is a 21 min. program in 7 movements starting off with a PROLOGUE to set the atmosphere with the central whispering gallery. This leads us right into the fiery TANGO APASIONADO which features the first soloists of the program. The tango goes straight into the THE IMPALA BLUE ́59 which is a journey back to the early days of the Chevrolet Impala and especially its function as a "city cruiser" which is a great symbol in American history. The central piece in the program is A TIME FOR US. This features a quintet positioned behind the main band facing away from the audience. This simple hymn urges us into reflection. The euphonium solo SUNSET & AFRICAN JIG is a fusion of African rhythms and a dancing melody as an Irish jig. The prologue re-accrues as an EPILOGUE based on the same idea using the whispering gallery - this time it ends in perfect order with the words "Back in the groove..." accelerating us into the finale. BACK IN THE GROOVE is an up-tempo funk piece. This particular movement carries PINK as its colour and is pure celebration. Stage planning, mutes, repetitions etc. are ad lib.

Colourama was commissioned by Per-Erik Petersen & the IMI Brass from Stavanger, Norway and was premiered on November 2nd, 2013 at the Siddis Brass Entertaining Contest in the LKS Hall, Stavanger.
